Hello friends!
Welcome to another Slop Bytes, I hope you had an amazing week!

OpenAI DevDay: Please Stop Giving Me More Tabs
OpenAI's DevDay had 25 announcements. TWENTY FIVE. Here's what actually matters if you write code:
Dots: Always-on personal agents. They're alright if you're new to AI assistants. Here are my first impressions.
GPT-6.1 Sol: New coding model that OpenAI says matches GPT-6 Astra at roughly a fifth of the price ($2 input / $10 output per million tokens).
Ultrafast: A new premium speed tier with up to 8x faster token generation (300 tokens per second) in Codex and up to 6x in the API. Also 6x the price…
Pro 500: A new $500/month plan with 25x the Plus allowance plus access to Ultrafast. The only fast thing about it is how quickly it eats your usage.
Codex in the cloud: Start a task from anywhere and it keeps running after you close your laptop. I've BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE.
Codex CLI refresh: Voice commands (you can legally yell at your terminal now) and an
/agentsview for juggling tasks. Cool if you live in the terminal, I prefer the app.Code Review update: Codex summarizes diffs and flags issues on your PRs, even while you're away. Pretty helpful.
Codex Security Cloud: Scans your GitHub repos on a schedule and prepares fixes. Useful for most of you, I know you write that good slop.
Computer use in the Agents API: Build agents that click around real software. Some awesome use cases here.
Plugin extensions + MCP events: Plugins get sidebar panels in ChatGPT and can trigger automations when something happens in a connected app.
Sign in with ChatGPT: Use your ChatGPT plan inside 16 partner tools like Devin, Vercel, and Notion. This one is SO BEAUTIFUL.
Overall, pretty good announcements. Still sucks they're cutting the usage for Pro plans in half, though.
Sonnet 5.5 is out and it’s looking good??

INSANE how good the models are for short videos… (original post)
Claude Sonnet 5.5 is out, and Anthropic says it generates output 30%+ faster and costs up to 30% less per task.
Token prices didn't change: still $2 input / $10 output per million tokens, same as Sonnet 5 (and, funnily enough, the exact same price as GPT-6.1 Sol).
Not much to say at this point. You know the deal with these model releases.
My honest thoughts so far is that these new Opus and Sonnet models are definitely some of the bigger upgrades from Anthropic.
My experience:
Writing is SO MUCH better and less AI slop
No em dashes! We're truly in a new era
Design is REALLY good for videos and even UI/UX
The amount of usage you get from these models is insane, it's such an upgrade
Personally, I'd use Sonnet for small and defined tasks, but for writing, design, and coding I still use Opus. I honestly think I'd use Opus over Sol right now.
Vite+ 1.0: One CLI for Your Whole Toolchain
The team behind Vite and Vitest just shipped Vite+ 1.0 and it’s beautiful.
One command handles your Node version, your package manager, your linter, formatter, test runner, bundler, basically EVERYTHING.
And it's free and MIT licensed…
It really makes you want to cry with how generous they are.
One dependency, one config:
vite-plusreplaces stuff like vite, vitest, eslint, prettier, tsup, and turbo, all configured from a singlevite.config.tsSame commands everywhere:
vp dev,vp test,vp build, andvp check(format, lint, and type-check in one pass), plus a cached monorepo task runnerFast: It's built with Rust. So you already know it's BLAZINGLY FAST.
Not just for Vite apps: it's framework-agnostic, so React apps, Vue libraries, Node CLIs, and monorepos all get the same commands
Honestly, this is huge. Half the pain of starting a web project is picking and configuring six different tools before you've built anything. Even with agents, there's a lot to configure and a lot that can go wrong.
Now it's just one install and similar commands to get all the info you need.
Windows Gets Its Own Linux Container CLI
WSL containers is now generally available, which makes Linux containers on Windows feel a lot less painful.
Built into WSL: no separate container engine to install. Just run
wsl --update(works on Windows 10 and 11)Docker-style commands:
wslc run, wslc build, wslc container list, so your Docker muscle memory mostly transfers.containerworks as an alias too.Faster file access: Microsoft says up to 2x faster when Linux reads your Windows files, which is one of the most annoying WSL slowdowns
VS Code dev containers work: you can use
wslcas the driverAPI for Windows apps: the
Microsoft.WSL.ContainersNuGet package lets apps spin up Linux containers as part of their own logicNo Compose support yet: Microsoft calls it the top feature request, but there's no release date. Which means this is NOT a Docker Desktop replacement yet.
Still, if you're on Windows and just need to run a few containers, it's worth a try. It's free, it's already built into Windows, and every project gets its own Linux setup without installing a whole separate app or turning your laptop into a dependency junk drawer.

Why a streaming AI response can fail after "200 OK" - Imagine getting a success message, but your app just breaks. Sounds annoying to debug.
Why your "healthy" app keeps dropping requests - Learn the three Kubernetes health checks (startup, readiness, liveness) with interactive diagrams, plus how the wrong settings trap a perfectly fine app in a restart loop.
Why Denmark keeps inventing your programming tools - Hear straight from the creators of C++ and C#/TypeScript why one tiny country is so good at creating programming languages.
Big O without the blank stare - A great visual explanation of Big O. It's interview season, so time to start prepping.
Boot Linux in your browser and learn how agent sandboxes work - Learn how to lock coding agents in a box so they can't wreck your machine, with a hands-on demo (a learning tool btw, not production security).

The agentic era needs a different CRM. That’s Attio.
Parallel, Turbopuffer, and Wordsmith run their entire GTM motion on Attio, with agents that chase every buying signal, build pipeline, and move deals forward, 24/7.
PiG - A terminal AI coding agent written in Go that you can swap models in and add your own commands to, so it fits your workflow instead of the other way around (Windows is in preview).
drawDB - Plan your database by drawing it, then export the SQL, so you catch bad table designs before writing a single CREATE TABLE. Free, no account.
Python Tutor - Watch your code run line by line and actually see how it works. Works on other languages too, not just Python.
regex101 - Paste your regex pattern and some sample text to see if it's actually working.
JSON Crack - Turns a giant nested API response into a clickable visual. Really helpful to see all the details and how they connect.
CodeCrafters - Learn how to build your own Redis, Git, SQLite, and more, and get instant feedback on your code (affiliate link to support the newsletter!)

That's all from me!
